Coloring with Copic and Bic Markers

Welcome to my Blog!

Today I wanted to share with you my experience with coloring with Copic and Bic Markers. I have both sets of the Bic Markers, Ultra and Ultra fine. I bought one set from Target and the other set from Amazon. They are really affordable especially if you are just starting out and do not want to invest a lot of money. The Copic markers that I have( Ciao and Sketch) I bought  from Michael's and Ebay.   I prefer the Ciao because the are slightly less expensive that the Sketch, and they do the same thing.

To begin you must have a either a coloring stamped image or a digital image you can print off to color.
There are tons of sites online that sell images for coloring, just search and find something you like.
I do not have alot of stamped images I can color in my stash, so I went online, found an image and started coloring with just Bic Markers.  Coloring with just Bic Markers was ok, but for skin, it just did not give me the range of skin tone colors that I wanted. On to my favorite resource, You-Tube, to see if someone has found a way to color with them and of course there was video..yay!!  I need a blender pen, so off I go to Michael's with a coupon to buy a blender pen.  I bought a Copic sketch blender marker, tried that technique and let's say I really liked that way that looked. .  You need to put down a layer of blender ink on your image, then color with the Bic Marker.  It does make the colored image smoother looking, but again I was not able to get the range of  skin tones with the Bics.   I researched some more about Copics, found a great blog site where the blogger gives you a list of 36 Copics for newbies. It is a great guide to go by for newbies The site was debbiehodge.com, Sept 2011 post.

So, I have my image, my markers and now I need paper.  As for paper, there are a lot of papers to color with, you just have to choose what you like.  I bought a  sample pack of Copic Express Blend It and Gina K Design. I like them both, but I did notice the difference in coloring with just Bics or just Copics.
For just Copic coloring only, I like the Gina K, it did not bleed as much. For just coloring with Bics, I like the Copic Express Blend It.  This is just my experience right now, as I practice more, it may change, who knows, but  for now either one will work.
Below are examples I colored. I practiced for about 2 weeks and created some color combos that I liked.

This is my coloring notebook. The image is from Saturated Canary. The markers were Spectrum Noir,
I sold those a while ago, the coloring system was confusing to me..lol!!

These are my Bic Markers both the ultra and the ultra fine and my Copic CiaoSketch skin tone colors.

Basically, for the skin tone I would use the Bic colors as the shadow and blend with the Copics
For the clothing, eyes , lips I used just the Bic Markers
